Here are some questions we are often asked. If there are any other questions that you would like an answer to, please do not hesitate to contact us and we will do our best to answer them for you.

Why does my cover crease when I reel it in?
1. The system was not set squarely to the pool, therefore the cover is pulling more on one side than the other. To remedy this, you will need to reset the system square to the pool.
2. Some of the strapping is tighter than others, this will cause uneven tension and creasing. Take the straps off at the tube and refasten them so that each one has the same tension.

Why is my system difficult to reel up?
1. When you installed the system you should have put waterproof grease in the black bushings. This needs to be done at least once a year to ensure ease of use.
2. The bolts holding the handle and white knob have been over tightened. This will cause too much friction and make turning the handle difficult. Just ease the pressure off both bolts and this should help.
3. The cover is too heavy, it may be waterlogged. If you are using a cover which is not a 1/8” Bubble Cover check the tube guide table to make sure that you have the correct model for the size of cover.

The drop in anchor (concrete seal) turns when I tighten the anchor bolt.
1. The hole for the drop in anchor is too big. The right size is 1/2” round hole (1 1/2” deep). If the hole is more than 1/2” in diameter, you will need to drill another hole of the correct size and reset the anchors.
2. This can be a problem when the drop in anchor has not been centre punched. By doing this with a centre punch (or large nail) it will force the legs out into the concrete. This will secure it into the concrete and it will not rotate.
3. You are overtightening the anchor bolts. You need only turn the bolt about two turns to engage the threads, this will be enough to hold the system while in use. To fix this use a centre punch ( or large nail) and reset the anchor in the same hole.

I have a wooden deck around my pool. Can I use the anchors included in kit?
No, the anchors in the kit are for concrete only. You can purchase wood anchors from your local hardware store. Take the anchor bolt with you to ensure correct sizing.

My tube tends to sag. Why?
Firstly any tubing will sag the longer it is extended, gravity tends to take it’s course.
1. Most sagging is the result of someone using the tube as a seat. The tubing is not designed to be sat on at any time, this is also a dangerous practise and can cause injury.
2. Did you follow the instructions and bolt the tubes together? Or did you screw them together? If you screwed them together they will not have the same lateral integrity as bolting them together.
3. Check the length of the tubing against the instruction sheet and ensure the tubing has not been over extended. If you over extend the tubing sagging will occur.
4. Are you using a heavy cover? If so the weight may be causing the sagging. All Rocky’s tube sizes are determined using a 1/8” Bubble Cover, so therefore any other type of cover may cause you a problem.

How far apart should I place the strapping?
The usual distance is every three feet; check the instruction sheets included on this site for details of how to attach the cover to the tube.
You may wish to place the strapping at closer intervals, although this is not necessary. You can purchase extra Rocky’s Strapping and grommets if you require them.

Why won't the Grommets stay together?
This problem is usually due to incorrect application. The strapping should be pushed as far over the shaft on the female grommet as possible. Then insert the male grommet and tap with a hammer, not too hard, but enough to snap them together. This should resolve the problem.

Where do I place my reel system for the best possible effect?
Please see the instruction sheet provided with the reel system. You may prefer to look at the reel system's page on this web site. Just select the model you have and download a copy of the instruction sheet.
If you have an unusual shape pool, or if you require some assistance we can help you. Fax a drawing of your pool to us. Include the size of the pool and positions of any ladders, diving boards, hot tubs or other items that would impede the cover from being reeled up. We can then look at it and give you suggestions as to placement of the reel system, and which model to use.
